Poster Session - Play Inside the Library

Sat., Nov. 8th
Play Inside the Library
Charity Anderson, Sonoma County
Tiffant Brozan, Sonoma County

This was my first poster session, if you've never been, poster sessions are in the exhibit hall and it's a bit like a science fair. You get to walk up and see someone's poster, sometimes props, and speak with them about their program.

In this case, Sonoma County Library was part of RK and MP's Staff Innovation Fund (SIF) training. They used the SIF training to write a grant to receive a Play and Learn Island.

Apparently, what they did not consider was that while a PAL is mobile, it does fit in the back of a car. It requires larger, more well planned transport. They wanted to try and think of another way to still offer play, but in a bit quicker of a format and even more mobile (say a car).

They adapted the play concepts from the PAL - such as the dig and created "Sensory bins". Small plastic bins, filled with rice (was the sample with them), with toys inside (scoopers, sifters, etc.).

Seeing as how PALS are sort of our babies I had a bit of hard time hearing someone else speak about them. Not all of the info. being shared was shared in a way I thought it should be. But as Michelle pointed out, it's fantastic that someone else is saying wonderful things about our PALs for us!
