- began with helping PAL setup in the exhibit area called "Get Messy"
- attended the SRP "Read to the Rhythm" workshop - demonstation of items that are included in the iREAD SRP binder. The iRead representative was very excited about promoting the 2016 illustrators - Froggy Goes to... illustrator. They had 15 minute break out sessions which we had to sign up for before the conference. I attended the crafts for Toddlers session and where we made straw kazoo's and a drum craft using beads, paper plates, markers and ribbon. Wess demoed the easy to make horn:
The other break out session involved untraditional SRP programs. Most of the discussion centered on incentives and how to raise the completion rate. A few of the people mentioned high rates of registration and low rates of completion. Some of the people shared how instead of buying toys as incentives, they offer raffle tickets for more experiential prizes - trips to museums, tickets to baseball games, etc. which we've also pondered.
- Awards Gala. I was responsible for the looping pre-show of PRExcellence Award winners and entries and the powerpoint for the Awards presentation. Wess was awesome and helped me set up the laptop. To put it mildly, I was very perturbed at the outgoing CLA president's handling of the presentation. She passed over the beginning slides and didn't advance slides - she was totally unprepared which was surprising to me because you'd think she'd want to make a good impression.
