Margaret did a fantastic job putting together the slides for the program - top quality stuff!
We got to hear some nice speeches from quite a few of the recipients. One of my favorites was about a librarian (I think 1905?) from (Los Angeles) that was a cowboy librarian. I believe he put together a really great collection on the west. My favorite part was listening to how some people thought he was too rowdy to be a librarian and that his response to people stealing books was to brand them (and it worked)!
We also enjoyed some interesting artistic performances including -
a flutist who played recipients off stage,
a Can Can dance troupe to perform a number for us mid awards,
and then ending there was a Charles Dickens impersonator troupe including everyone's favorite, Santa!
It was really great to spend some time together and see some of the great awards!
I like the story of the cowboy-hat-wearing "too rowdy to be a librarian" and his branding of patrons as a successful collections strategy :-)
